'CRACKDOWN DRUG HOTLINE

Drugs and crime go hand-in-hand.

The facts speak for themselves. A recent survey of people taken into custody in Suffolk revealed that almost 75 per cent of them admitted to having some kind of drug or alcohol problem.

It was against this type of background that Suffolk Constabulary launched a major anti-drugs initiative. Crackdown was launched in 1996 to cut the supply of drugs to the county by targeting those suspected of producing or supplying drugs.

It also heralded a commitment to work with other agencies through the countywide Drug Action Team (DAT) to educate people about the dangers of drug misuse and to make it less acceptable within the community.

Since the launch of Crackdown, thousands of arrests have been made in the on-going campaign against drugs. That work will continue - and the public can play their part too.

A special 24-hour Freephone Drug Hotline - telephone number 0800 253 253 - is available for people to come forward with confidential informaton about drug use in their area.

The hotline is sponsored by the Willis Group, one of the world’s three global risk management and insurance intermediaries.
