(SNWA) Suffolk Neighbourhood Watch Association

The association, which was set up in 1996, consists of representatives from NW schemes from all the police sectors in Suffolk – and works hand-in-hand with the police.
Statistics show that levels of crime are less in residential areas covered by NW than in those which are not.

Its purpose

NW is a vital and successful aid to the police. It helps in the prevention, detection and deterrence of offences while fostering community spirit and reducing the fear of crime.

NW is already extremely well supported in Suffolk, with more than 30 per cent of households covered. The strategic objective of the SNWA is to promote and extend that support so that it embraces 54% of all households in the county.

In order to achieve this, the SNWA intends to: -

  • Raise the public perception of NW.
  • Foster closer links with the Police and other local bodies.
  • Strengthen NW networks and help them expand.
  • Give support and training to co-ordinators where required.
  • Help reduce crime and the fear of crime as well as developing community spirit.
  • Initiate community projects such as ‘Datalink’.
  • Discover and promote ‘Best Practice’ from within the county and from other Watch Associations.
