A SARC is a client focused, ‘one stop’ location where victims of serious sexual assault or rape can receive medical care, access to a high standard of forensic examination, counselling and support - while at the same time or in the future (if this is their choice) have the opportunity to assist the Police investigation into alleged offences.

Benefits offered by a SARC include an increase in overall victim confidence, and potential physical and mental health and well-being. Recent evaluations of existing SARCs noted a number of distinct and valuable benefits to victims, both male and female.

In Suffolk, the SARC is a joint venture between Suffolk Constabulary, Suffolk NHS, Great Yarmouth & Waveney NHS, Rape Crisis, and other voluntary and statutory sector partner agencies including the criminal justice system – it is for all victims of serious sexual assault or rape, of all ages and regardless of sexual orientation.

As a new service, it has been developed in purposely designed centrally located premises, which will be assessed via a helpline, and works in collaboration with existing Police and partner agency services and health care pathways to provide a range of choices for clients based on good practice and feedback from service users.

The SARC Supervisor will provide day to day management of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, including provision of an effective and responsive client based service, management of premises and supervision of staff.

Hours of work are 37 hrs per week Monday to Friday. This post is offered on a temporary basis.
